What is Asperger Syndrome?

Autism includes the condition known as Asperger Syndrome, which describes people who show the same characteristics of autism to a greater or lesser extent, but are of average or above average intelligence and seem to have good communication skills.

For the majority of people with Asperger Syndrome, the need for support in their own homes may never become an issue. Many will go successfully through life without diagnosis, some will resist any involvement from other people and others will develop their own idiosyncratic informal support systems. However, some individuals with Asperger Syndrome may be assessed as requiring support in the short or long term to become independent and successful within their own home.
