Working with plantsProgramme

Each person has a planned programme specific to his/her needs. In addition to practical skills in horticulture, non-specific work skills such as being on time, teamwork, having a break, health and safety etc are also integrated into the programme.

Social Skills

Social skills are built into each programme and taught in the real work setting. Adults are encouraged to problem solve through discussion with colleagues. All teaching is autism specific and environments are adapted as necessary to provide consistency.

Advocacy

Advocacy is built into every activity. Individuals are encouraged to suggest improvements and develop the unit and are supported in their personal aims through discussion with trained staff and a range of procedures including quality audits.

Development

To develop wider links with other services in order to share expertise
To encourage further independence through a range of autism-specific teaching strategies
To ensure that the service is developed in line with current thinking in the field of autism
