New Ridgepark - A Centre For Transition
Transition is one of the major life events for a person with autism and their parents. At New Ridgepark we evaluate and appraise the person's needs, identifying their strengths and limitations to provide strategies that enable them to cope with their limitations and to offer opportunities that will enhance and develop their strengths.
Set in a Victorian house with gardens that provide peace and tranquillity needed by a person with autism, New Ridgepark provides the ideal setting to encourage their growth and development from the end of childhood to the beginning of adulthood.
Our objective is to complete the person's evaluation within a period of six months to three years, depending on their needs and abilities. It is based on a minimum of one to one staff ratio, allowing for intensive support and intervention at the right time that has proved to be successful and cost effective, thus avoiding the need for higher levels of support later in life.
Currently, we provide eight placements for people from all over Scotland. They may come from school, college or home or be going through a significant life event. They usually require a period of intense support or crisis intervention.
We recognise that it is not only the person with autism going through the process of change who is affected: it is also parents who need support. We provide this support where required and encourage input and feedback from parents.
New Ridgepark is near Lanark, the historic village of New Lanark and around one hour by rail or road from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
